Cannot Stay Asleep
what is the best over the counter sleep aid to help fall asleep and stay asleep?
i cannot take anymore tylenol pm and melatonin doesn’t work at all so i am looking for something to help me fall asleep and stay asleep…. i used to take Ambien and that was the only thing that would help me then when my doc took me off i started tylenol pm but half the tie just get cranky on them and not fall sleep te other half i fall asleep but wake up all hours of the night… i rally nee some sleep so does anyone know of anything i can take over the counter that will put me to sleep
and yes i have tried the warm milk thing and lavander lotions and oils i tried everything before turning to meds
I find that beer or wine often does the job. Seriously. I’m not saying to get drunk…just a drink or two.
You can also try JUST the PM part of Tylenol PM. It is called Diphenhydramine HCl and you can buy it at most pharmacy departments. I know Walmart sells it and it is very inexpensive.

It is generic Benadryl.
Cyclobenzaprine ( Pronunciation: sye kloe BEN za preen) is the generic for Brand Names: Amrix, Comfort Pac with Cyclobenzaprine, Fexmid, Flexeril and is a muscle relaxant which I find very effective in helping me sleep, but for me seems to have a “hang time” (takes a while to work and lasts a while after it does— so I take it early, a few hours before bed time—otherwise it doesn’t work when I need it to and is difficult to wake up in the morning because it is still working if I take it too late) It is a prescription drug.
There are non-medicinal ways to help you sleep which you should consider. I find “white noise” very effective. You can use a white noise sound machine or simply find something else which emits a soft, steady noise. There are plenty of web sites which sell white noise machines.
Good luck and sweet dreams.
